FAQ's: SIMONOV.NET'S UBERFAQ: A super comprehensive FAQ with tutorials, photographs, and possibly .MPG movies in the future. REC.GUNS SKS FAQ: This SKS FAQ is a compendium of the writings of many of the knowledgeable people on the rec.guns forum. SKS FAQ: By Miles O'Neal
ONLINE MANUALS: Will England's Manual: OUTSTANDING instructions and detailed photos covering SKS disassembly and cleaning. Great site for folks new to SKS's. The Unofficial On-Line SKS Manual: One of the best. Most of the illustrations come directly from common SKS publications such as The SKS Carbine. This site has been "in progress" for a very, very long time. Online Manual: An online version of the common and generic "blue manual" found at gun shows for the SKS and online at eBay for $5.00. Very quick to load, but you have to load illustrations separately. Survivor's online SKS manual: Another copy of the "blue manual", only direct page scans. Takes forever to load and the text can be hard to read, but all illustrations are present immediately. Combat Arm's SKS Manual: A text based SKS manual that's not half bad. US Army's SKS Manual: A .PDF of the US Army's SKS familiarity manual, aka the "tan manual".
IDENTIFICATION: Simonov.net's Chinese Factory Code Chart: The most complete listing of Chinese factory codes on the 'net! Factory Symbols: R.K. Smith's pictures of armory stamps and information as to the country of origin. SKS Origins: A good breakdown of the different countries who have manufactured SKS's.
PEOPLE: LEO LIVINGSTON: The story behind the Ultralight Folder and the man who dreamed it up. HOWARD BEARSE: A few pages dedicated to the work of the SKS collector called Howie. Items include the catalog of his 50+ SKS's and many pictures of unique and rare SKS's.
RESTORATION: How to Clean Especially Nasty Rifles: A Mosin Nagant page by Tuco, but universally valid. How to Fight Rust: Another Mosin page, again still valid.
BALLISTICS: Zeroing a scope: Quality information by Shooting Sports detailing how to zero a cheap scope (which 90% of us have!). Zeroing the Iron Sights: An article from the AKList by Richard Gould. I agree with the methods outlined in this article, but I think they make a relatively easy procedure harder than it needs to be. Hitach's Intro to Ballistics: An online ballistics guide with special attention paid to 7.62x39. A good read. Corrosive Ammo: The history of and how to clean corrosive ammo.
VARIOUS: A J's SKS Info: Various tidbits regarding nomenclature, history, data, arsenal stamps, etc... Misc. Information: More technical information about our favorite rifle. The Kirby (The OG) Sanders' C&R Page: A wealth of good SKS information, such as: The Sino-Soviet Secret: What could it possibly be?!?! Slamfires!: Everyone should read this, especially newbies to the SKS. The History of the SKS: One of the few original SKS history pages out there. Worth seeing. Diagram: OG's blown up diagram of the SKS and parts listing.
