Howard Bearse has been collecting the SKS since before most people were even aware of their existence.  At the time, Howie dealt in firearms.  He'd order a lot of 5 or so SKS's, skim any he didn't already have and sell the rest.  This was back in the day when newly imported SKS's were prolific and a dealer could buy one for under $60.00.  Doing something like this today would be extremely difficult and cost prohibitive.  

Howie's familiarity with the SKS is exhaustive.  What most people have read about, Howie owns.  Most of his knowledge is not derived from reading books or forum postings like most of us, but deduced from comparing the empirical evidence found in the hundreds of SKS's that have passed through his hands.  To this day he scours the gun show tables looking for new SKS types and gathering data on the types he already has.

The SKSProject is a broadening of the work already started by Mr. Bearse.  Please help contribute to the pool of information as much as possible.

Howie is a regular poster on Tuco's SKS forum, and when it comes to the SKS, I consider his word gospel when it comes to SKS's..
