BIPODS

OVERVIEW:  Bipods rest in one of those legal gray areas of SKS ownership.  To the best of my knowledge, it's legal to attach removable bipods, but illegal to attach them permanently.  I could be wrong in this because both ATI and B-Square sell bolt on bipods.  There are HUNDREDS of bipods that attach to certain barrel diameters and sling swivel mounts, but here are a few found commonly with SKS's.

HARRIS:  These steel bipods have spring loaded, anti-collapsing, adjustable legs.  They mount to the sling mount on the stock and come in both removable, swivel style and permanent non-swivel style.  These mounts are expensive at around $60 per, but they're of such high quality it may be worth the investment.

ATI:  This mount is a clever use for the bayonet lug, allowing use of both the bipod and the bayonet.  Made of aluminum, they are of high quality manufacture, but dubious design.  This bipod tends to collapse forward, the legs aren't adjustable and they loosen over time.

B-SQUARE makes a vary large variety of universal bipods and one specifically for the SKS.  The link will display their bipod selection from their website.  The SKS model clamps permanently to the barrel.  It features adjustable, folding, rubber tipped legs and I've seen this bipod in both black and chrome.

These are two of several different clamp on designs.  They will range from the higher quality steel part pictured left to flimsy stamped metal.  I've seen one that even looks like a giant synthetic clothespin!  Having one of these around is both inexpensive and universally adaptable to any SKS a person feels like taking to the range that day.  They are easily stowed in the rifle bag or case.  One of these can go from your back pocket to attached to the rifle in seconds.  Downward pressure makes the clip-ons hold tighter and the ones pictured above are also held in place by the cleaning rod.  Some are synthetic, some steel, some both.  WARNING:  If you value the finish on your barrel, avoid the clamp-ons that have steel parts that contact the rifle as they will scratch it up.

VERSAPOD makes several varieties of bipod that have universal mounting kits to fit SKS's.  Not all their products have legs this long, and the prices are about average.
